Lost your PAN card? Former England cricketer Kevin Petersen just did and he did something unusual. The cricket expert is currently associated with the upcoming IPL season and hence, required all his documents for the travel. However, he took to Twitter to announce that he had lost his PAN card and hence, needs help from Indians on the social medio platform. And soon enough, the social media handle of the Income Tax Department reached out for assistance.

"INDIA PLEASE HELP, I've misplaced my PAN card & travelling Mon to India but need the physical card for work. Can some PLEASE PLEASE direct me to someone who I can contact asap to help me?,” tweeted the ex-cricketer on his Twitter. He had also tagged the Prime Minister to gain more attention from the authorities.

Soon after, the IT department's social media handle reached out with a solution, “Dear @KP24, We are here to help you. If you have your PAN details with you, please visit these links for the procedure to apply for reprint of physical PAN Card.” “In case, however, you don't remember your PAN details and need to ascertain the PAN for applying for reprint of physical card, please write to us at adg1.systems@incometax.gov.in & jd.systems1.1@incometax.gov.in,” it added.

PAN card lost: Here's what you can do

Similar to the Kevin Pietersen, if you lost your PAN card and are in need of it urgently, you don't need to go on Twitter to ask for help. There are a few simple and easy steps to quickly download a digital version of the PAN card. Called e-PAN card, you can download it for free from the Income Tax Department's portal.

Here are three easy steps to do the same. Note that you will need to have your PAN card number handy along with the Aadhaar card number and date of birth details.

Step 1: You can visit the download e-pan NSDL portal from https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/requestAndDownloadEPAN.html

Step 2: Now enter the details required on the form such as date of birth, PAN and Captcha code.

Step 3: Click on 'submit' and download the e-PAN on your device.
