The iPhone 14 is just hours away and so far, we know a fair amount about these smartphones. From the expected prices to what chipset powers them, the iPhone 14 series seems to be a big upgrade over its predecessor. However, over the last one year, we have been told a lot of things regarding the iPhone 14 series and some of them have been brushed aside. In fact, the early renders of the iPhone 14 Pro now seem to look completely untrue and Apple could be revealing a different iPhone 14 this time.

Hence, we take a quick look at the leaks that seem to be less promising now. Here is a list of everything that we were told about the iPhone 14 series that are not happening anymore now.

iPhone 14 Pro new design

The original iPhone 14 Pro design renders shared by tipster Jon Prosser ahead of last year's iPhone 13 announcement has now been rubbished by most leaks. The iPhone 14 Pro won't look like a grown-up iPhone 4 with its completely flat sides and flush camera array along witch circular buttons. Instead, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus will look like the iPhone 13, whereas the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will look mostly like the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, sans the display notch.

iPhone 14 Mini

Apple usually keeps hold of an iPhone form factor for years and it was expected that the iPhone Mini would continue for generations. However, rumours now suggest that Apple will kill the mini iPhone and replace it with a iPhone 14 Plus – a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 as big as the iPhone 13 Pro Max, but with all feature set of the iPhone 14. The iPhone 14 Plus will cost $899 and will sit between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro.

A16 Bionic chip for all

Yes, this was once expected from the entire iPhone 14 series, since this is the norm for Apple every year. However, Apple is expected to double down on cost cutting this year and reuse the A15 Bionic chip from the iPhone 13 Pro for the standard iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. The A16 chip is expected to be based on 5nm process and be limited to the iPhone 14 Pro as well as iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Under-display Face ID

No more notch on the iPhone 14 Pro this year but there was one leak suggesting the Face ID sensors to be hidden. Hence, there were expectations of the iPhone 14 Pro only having a small camera cutout similar to the Samsung Galaxy S22. However, the Face ID sensors will have their own pill shaped cutout and Apple is now said to fuse the two holes using software to make it appear as a giant pill.
