This is the iPhone 14 Pro announced at the Apple event.

The iPhone 14 Pro breaks cover with that wide pill cutout! Yes! That means we finally have a brand new iPhone that ditched the conventional display notch for the first time since 2017's iPhone X. Launched alongside the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, the iPhone 14 Pro brings substantial upgrades over the iPhone 13 Pro with regards to the camera and overall performance. And yes, there is a larger Pro Max version of the same.

Unlike the iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Pro comes in four storage variants this year. Prices start at $999 for the base 128GB variant while the 256GB variant is there for those want more. You can also get it with 512GB storage and the range topping 1TB variant. The same storage options apply for the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which starts at $1,099 for the 128GB version. The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max come in a new shade of Deep Purple alongside the usual Silver, Gold, and Space Black.

You can pre-order them on September 9 and they will be available from September 16.

 

iPhone 14 Pro basic specifications at a glance

The iPhone 14 Pro brings the much awaited change on the iPhone lineup – the removal of the notch. With the new display, the notch has been removed and in its place lies a wide cutout shaped like a pill. Apple calls its the Dynamic island. The UI forms around the dynamic island. It resembles the appearance of the Touch Bar from the MacBook Pro 13-inch. You can even access controls of active services and Apple says it is always active, showing real-time information. This holds the front camera and the Face ID sensor.

The OLED display itself has a variable refresh rate of 1Hz to 120Hz, which means you can expect better power efficiency. The display has slimmer bezels this year as well. Apple promises up to 2000 nits of peak brightness.

This 1Hz refresh rate also allows for an Always On Display functionality. Apple says it can dim wallpaper and you can have the lockscreen experience even when it is asleep.

Next is the chipset. Apple is using the new A16 Bionic chipset that promises better performance and efficiency. This is a 4nm chip and is 40 percent faster than the competition. The processor has 2 high performance cores and 4 efficiency cores. Apple says it can use ⅓rd the power to better preserve battery life. The 5 core GPU has 50 percent more bandwidth. The Display Engine allows for the Dynamic Island functions.

Next is the camera section. The iPhone 14 Pro gets the new 48MP main camera. Apple says it has a 65% larger sensor than iPhone 13 Pro. It features a new Second generation sensor shift OIS with a 24mm focus length. Pixel binning will be used to give more enhanced images. It also gives 2X telephoto zoom. You can also shoot 48MP ProRAW images for professional usage. This is accompanied by a new 12MP ultrawide sensor that claims to capture more light and details. The 12MP telephoto camera allows for 3X optical magnification.

The Action Mode and Cinematic mode come to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Lastly, the battery life. The iPhone 14 Pro gets a larger capacity battery life promising an all-day battery life.
