Nothing Phone (1) has garnered a lot of hype lately for all the right and wrong reasons. Despite all the controversies, the Phone (1) is well built phone for a midrange Android smartphone and those Glyph lights add character to it. However, with every brand announcing their Android 13 release plans, some social media users asked when would the Nothing Phone (1) see the Android 13 update. After a rather vague answer from the company's founder Carl Pei, Nothing has now released an official statement suggesting a timeframe for the new Android update release.

In a statement to Android Authority, Nothing has said, “We are always working hard to improve the Phone 1 user experience. To ensure this, operating system updates will be made available for regular download. In regards to Android 13, this will be launching for Phone 1 users in the first half of 2023. Before releasing, we want to fine tune the software upgrade with Nothing's hardware. We will be sure to keep you updated with further information.”

Nothing Phone (1) Android 13 update coming late

A period of the first half of 2023 means Nothing Phone (1) users might have to wait a long time in order to get their hands on Android 13. This is surprising given that the Nothing OS Android skin is largely similar to the bare bones version of Android 12. Moreover, Nothing has been consistently updating the Phone (1) with bug fix patches and improving the camera performance lately.

At its launch, it was promised that Nothing would provide three Android OS updates and four years of security patches to the Phone (1). A forecast of a 2023 release does put Nothing in a negative light but things could always change. At the moment, Nothing only has one smartphone in its portfolio to service, unlike other brands with over a dozen models in a price bracket.

The Nothing Phone (1) recently observed a price hike in India, with Nothing citing increased component costs as the reason behind it. The Phone (1) now starts at Rs. 33,999 for the base version and goes up to Rs. 39,999 for the top-end variant. These prices make the Phone (1) the most expensive smartphone with the Snapdragon 778G+ chip.
