How to disable Gmail's annoying Meet tab on Android, iOS

While this is one of Google’s ways to push engagement on Meet and make office video calls easier, it might just be annoying for some. Fortunately, there’s a way to disable it on both Android and iOS.

A few days ago, we saw Google integrating its Meet video conference platform inside the Gmail app on both Android and iOS. Post integration one can see a large tab at the bottom showing ‘Mails' and ‘Meet'. While this is one of Google's ways to push engagement on Meet and make office video calls easier, it might just be annoying for some. Fortunately, there's a way to disable it on both Android and iOS. Just follow these steps.

On Android:

Step 1: Inside Gmail, tap on the three-line hamburger menu on the top left corner.

Step 2: Scroll down and tap on ‘Settings' option.

Step 3: Once opened, tap on the account in which you don't want to see the ‘Meet' tab.

Step 4: Under the ‘Meet' sub section, disable ‘Show the Meet tab for video calling' option.

That's it.

On iPhones (iOS):

Process stays the same till Step 3.

Step 4: Under the ‘General' sub section disable the same option. And you're done.

It is worth adding that you have to follow these steps for each of your accounts since there's no way to disable it for all the accounts at once.

What the ‘Meet' tab does is that it opens up a new page where users can start a new meeting or join a new meeting. In case you missed it, Google Meet video calling platform was limited to G Suite users until last month when Google announced it to reach all the users.

Meet integration aside, Gmail is planning to add another feature on its platform – authentication logos. Google joined Brand Indicators for Message Identification or BIMI last year in a bid to develop technology to prevent email fraud. Now, the company is planning to introduce a new feature called authentication logos in GSuite that would add brand logos to verified
