Apple iPhone 12, 12 Pro's manufacturing cost, priciest component revealed

It has been a while since the four iPhone 12 models are out and available in almost every country now. In the series, the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro models start at $699 and $999. However, you might be having an idea that these don't cost the same in manufacturing. They cost much less. Now, Japanese teardown experts Fomalhaut Techno Solutions has released a latest report claiming how much it might have cost Apple in making the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.

As per the report (via Nikkei), the iPhone 12 Bill of Materials (BoM) comes to $373 while that of iPhone 12 Pro is $406. That's a difference of $326 for iPhone 12 and $593 and iPhone 12 Pro. However, like we have said for previous BoM related reports as well. The difference doesn't mean that the amount is going directly in Apple's pockets. A lot of it goes in marketing, transport, taxes, certifications and more.

Also mentioned are the two costliest components in the new iPhones. And like the last time, one of them is Samsung OLED display while the other is Qualcomm's X55 5G modem. Samsung display is estimated at $70 per unit while Qualcomm's modem is estimated at $90 per unit. In addition, the production cost of A14 Bionic is coming out to be $40. Some other expensive parts include the RAM at $12.8 per unit and flash memory at $19.2 per unit. Sony's camera sensors range between $7.4 and $7.9 for each unit.

According to the report, around 26.8% of the iPhone 12 Pro components come from South Korea, which 21.9% comes from the US, 13.6% from Japan, 11.1% from Taiwan, 4.6% from China and rest from Europe and others.
