Looks like Samsung could follow the same trend that is being rumoured for Apple iPhones this year, and yes it's not a good news for end consumers. The South Korean tech giant is now said to remove the charger from future Samsung boxes. As mentioned in an ET News report, Samsung could start this practice with select models and could expand it to all the smartphones eventually. Also mentioned is that this change may be seen as soon as next year.

It is worth mentioning that all Samsung smartphones come with a charger in the retail box. The company will probably be saving a lot if they remove chargers from several million handsets. This will not just bring down the cost of the handset but will also let them price it more aggressively. It is also likely to give a boost to the accessory market.

For what's worth, some smartphones have stopped including earphones in retail boxes, something that was a norm a few years ago. While this could seem like a major move for end customers, this will actually make sense for brands and the industry in three ways. First, as we mentioned above, will let them price smartphones more aggressively and get more product margins. The second reason will be that e-waste will reduce by a good amount as the number of spare chargers will probably go down. Third reason is that since the industry is slowly moving towards everything ‘wireless' with several phones already featuring wireless charging capabilities, the cutting of wired cable use could push the industry more towards that direction.

This news comes shortly after it was rumoured that Apple iPhones will be missing out on chargers starting this year. It means that customers will only get the handset in the retail box and no wires at all such as the Lightning charger or the earpods.
