Samsung has cancelled its annual developer conference due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Samsung Developer Conference, held on the lines of Apple's WWDC and Google's I/O, focuses on building developer's community around the company's hardware and software ecosystem. At the last year's SDC, the company had showcased the flip-style foldable phone design.

Samsung on its developer website said:

Please be advised, the Samsung Developer Conference in 2020 has been canceled. We are disappointed that we will not be hosting the event this year and getting the chance to interact directly with you. Our top priority is the health and safety of our employees, the developer community, partners, and local communities and in making this decision, we are following the latest guidance from state and local authorities. Be assured, we remain committed to finding ways to keep the developer community informed on our latest platform updates. We will continue to share important news and useful resources through our developer website and community forums.

Covid-19 derails tech events

This is not the first time we have seen a major technology event getting postponed or cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Some of the top annual events cancelled this year are Google I/O, Facebook F8, Oracle's OpenWorld Asia, Mobile World Congress, Game Developer Conference, and South by Southwest (SXSW) 2020.

The cancellation of technology events has not affected the launches of new products and services. For instance, Apple has launched iPhone SE, Apple One, Apple Watch SE and other products through online events. Microsoft has already announced plans to host all major events online until next year.

Even Samsung has held two virtual Galaxy Unpacked events to launch new products. The company will hold another Galaxy Unpacked event on September 23 to launch Galaxy S20 Fan Edition.
