The Indian government last week banned 59 China-based apps as they posed a threat to the country's sovereignty, security and public order. The list of banned apps include popular short-video streaming app TikTok, which prior to the ban had amassed 200 million users in India.

The absence of TikTok has created a void in the Indian social media scenario that is slowly being filled by its Indian alternatives such as Mitron and Chingari among others.

So here is a list of top five Indian apps that you can use instead of TikTok:

Mitron

Mitron has emerged as one of the most popular Indian alternatives to TikTok. The app reached the 1.7 crore mark almost a week after it touched the 1 crore mark. It has also got 2 crore seed funding, which the founders plan to use for scaling up the operations.

Chingari

Chingari is another popular app that has witnessed a massive surge in users in the past couple of days. The app crossed 10 million downloads on the Google Play Store last week. Following the surge, the company planned to introduce a better user interface and bug fixes soon.

Roposo

Like Chingari and Mitron, Roposo too has witnessed a massive spike in users in a short duration of time. Roposo, which is available in 12 Indian languages, saw a spike of 22 million users within two days of the app ban.

Moj

Shortly after the app ban, ShareChat launched Moj in India to take on the app. The app has garnered 5 million downloads on the Play Store and it is available in 15 Indian languages including Bengali, Gujarati and Kanada.

HiPi

Zee5 is also planning to cash-in on this trend by launching its TikTok rival HiPi. While the app hasn't been launched yet, the app claims that it's a space where users can “uninhibitedly and unapologetically be themselves without fear of being judged.”
