Twitter has announced that they will be taking proactive steps of alerting users about potential misinformation in preparation for “unverified claims” about the November 3 US elections.

According to an AFP report, Twitter is going to place notices on top of users' feeds to warn them about delays in full election results and that people might see misleading information about voting by mail.

This effort to ‘pre-bunk' misinformation is a part of Twitter's efforts to stay a step ahead of “baseless claims” about the US Elections before they occur, Twitter's head of site integrity Yoel Roth said.

"Research shows that getting ahead of misinformation is a powerful way to build resilience. Excited to see this application of inoculation theory in practice,” Roth added in his tweet.

This is the latest of the moves being made by online platforms that are trying to stem unverified information and claims during the campaign, “including President Donald's Trump's efforts to call into question the legitimacy of mail-in ballots”.

Twitter has also previously said it would remove tweets that “encourage violence or call for people to interfere with election results or the operation of polling places”.

Twitter also added that candidates for office may not claim an election win before it is "authoritatively called" and that all premature claims would be labeled with a link to the platform's election page.
