Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones launched in India: Here’s how much it costs

Sony has finally unveiled its flagship headphone of the year, WH-1000XM4 in India. Launched in the US a few weeks ago, this audio product costs ₹29,990 here and comes with an introductory offer of ₹1,500 off till September 30. Like last time, the headphones are touted for their industry-leading noise cancellation tech along with some new features that were missing before.

The Noise Cancellation is powered by the QN1 chipset. This works along with Dual Noise Sensor technology that captures ambient noise and passes the data to the processor to cut it. This results in good amount of isolation. Besides a built-in amplifier, the headphone gets the same 40mm drivers with improved algorithm for better clarity.

One of the key additions in Sony WH-1000XM4 is the Speak-to-chat feature that automatically stops the music and lets in ambient sound when it detects the wearer speaking something. Wearing detection is also claimed to be enhanced this time with a proximity sensor and two acceleration sensors. This also helps in saving the battery. All this come over and above the Quick Attention mode, which we saw in the 1000XM3 earbuds as well. 

The headphones can be paired with two devices at the same time, which means you can quick switch between them using the app. “The headphones can detect which device is ringing when the user receives a call and switches to the right one automatically,” adds Sony.

In addition, you get LDAC and DSEE Extreme tech so lossless and enhanced audio is also expected from 1000XM4. DSEE Extreme upscales compressed digital music files in real time by dynamically recognizing instrumentation, musical genres, and individual elements of each song, claims Sony. 

As for the Adaptive Sound Control, the headphone uses its Sense Engine to detect if the user is walking, travelling or waiting, and changes the ambient sound settings accordingly.

Supporting voice assistants like Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri, the 1000XM4 headphones can take calls and support touch gestures to control music playback and the volume as well.

However, with all the news features over the 1000XM3, the WH-1000XM4 is still claimed to deliver up to 30 hours of playback. You can also charge it for 10 minutes to play it for up to 5 hours.
