Bang & Olufsen's new Beolab 28 speaker with wooden curtains costs over ₹12 lakhs

Bang & Olufsen, the audio company known for making uniquely designed high-end speakers, have yet again launched connected speakers that may not be as unique in terms of design but are surely costly. This time, complementing the company’s line of luxury home entertainment system is Beolab 28. These new connected speakers are priced at $14,750, which in Indian currency turns out to be over ₹10 lacs. What’s more is that the wood cover option goes till $16,500, which means more than ₹12 lacs.

At this price, you aren’t just getting a premium-looking speaker set with trademark Danish design, you also get several connectivity options, room audio calibration feature, multiroom audio and more. These are shaped as tall cylinders and have a base that looks like an inverted cone. The base also includes the woofer and supports the rest of the speaker no matter if it is sitting flat on the floor or mounted on a wall.

The touch controls at the top, light up when someone comes near. This is done using a proximity sensor detection motion. You get options to play/pause music, skip tracks and adjust the volume. There are also four preset buttons including quick access to Spotify playlists, streaming radio stations and more.

You can get Beolab 28 in three basic finishes - Natural Silver, Black Anthracite or Bronze Tone aluminum. Additionally, you get options in knitted fabric including grey and grey melange, and solid wood like light oak, oak, smoked oak and walnut.

Powering the speakers are triple 3-inch drivers placed vertically along with a 1-inch tweeter. There is a 6.5-inch woofer in the cone base. Besides room calibration and Beam Width Control, you also get a narrow mode that reduces the sound that bounces off walls by directing audio to an "ultimate sweet spot." It also has a wide mode so you can hear the same quality of audio no matter where you move inside the room.

As for connectivity, you get support for AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Spotify Connect, WiFi and Bluetooth. There is also Ethernet, Powerlink and line-in/optical connections. And of course, Beolab 28 comes with a remote. You can also download an app by Bang & Olufsen to control the speakers.

Like other latest speakers by the firm, this too has a replaceable connectivity module. This means that in future, these can be removed and upgraded with better connectivity options.
