WhatsApp allows you to request a report of everything it stores about you. This is the same information WhatsApp will hand over to the police in case there is an investigation against you. Your account info includes a wide range of information including your name and phone number, number of all your contacts and activity history like all the groups you ever joined, profile pictures, the numbers you have blocked and more. It also has your device type, IP address and privacy settings.
The report does not include any messages as WhatsApp does not keep a track of them.
WhatsApp takes about three days to prepare the report and share it with you. Once shared, you can download it or export it to another app. Once you request account info, you get a ‘ready by’ date which tells you when you will get to read it.
Once you have made a request, you will not be able to undo or cancel it. The only circumstance when it will become void is if the account is deleted or you change your number.
Open WhatsApp and tap on the three vertical dots on the top right.
Go to Settings > Account.
You’ll see an option which says ‘Request account info’. Tap on it.
That’s it. You have successfully requested the information. The next page will show the message “request sent” along with a ‘Ready by’ date indicating when you will receive the report.
