Going from Windows to macOS? Making the big jump may not be as easy as people and tech geeks may want you to believe. macOS has been long regraded as a polished desktop OS to make life easy but coming from the productivity-oriented Windows platform, there are a lot of things that could annoy. Some of them have been around on macOS since a long time, whereas others are more recently evolved issues with the current macOS Monterey update.

Despite the recent set of unique “magical” features that aim to make the macOS experience better with Appel products, here are a couple of things we think you should know before making the switch. If you are already on macOS, go through the list and find out the workarounds for these issues.

Window management

This is what Windows 11 does best and macOS still can’t. In Windows PC, you can simply drag a window to either side of the screen to open it in split view, or put in layouts to allow other windows running at the same time. On macOS, you still have to hover the mouse over the small green button and then decide whether to put it on the left or right. There are paid apps like Magnet that allow you to get the Windows-style multitasking for split view but it isn’t as effortless as Microsoft solution.

Inverted scrolling on mouse

If you use an external mouse with your Mac, you will witness the converted scrolling issue. Even if you change it from the System Preferences, the inverted scrolling comes back after a while on its own. The only way to get back the “normal way of scrolling” is by restarting your Mac or MacBook. This fixes the issue temporarily and Apple is yet to solve it despite several updates to macOS Monterey.

Charging issue on MacBook Pro 14/16

Several users on Reddit have complained of an issue on the new MacBook Pro 14 and 16-inch models. If you try to charge the laptop while it is shutdown, it won’t charge. The charging light will blink but it won’t take any charge. Apple is currently working on a fix but a temporary fix for this is to turn on the laptop and then plug-in the charger. This will refill the battery normally.

Battery drain on older MacBooks

macOS Monterey has also been known to cause battery drain issues on older MacBook models, including the M1 MacBook Air/Pro, Intel-powered MacBook Pro and Air models, and all supported older generations. Users have been complaining of reduced battery stamina and the only way to get around it is by downloading all the latest updates as soon as Apple makes them available. You can also Force Quit apps on your laptop.

Ecosystem issues

Users have also complained of an issue with AirDrop where it doesn’t detect other devices, and even when it does, the app freezes. Apple is yet to come up with a fix and temporary solution is to go for a full restart to get it working.

Additionally, the Unlock with Apple Watch feature is also not working with the latest macOS Monterey update. Users are having to unpair the watch and reset the OS to get the feature working again.
