Microsoft beefs up Outlook for Android, iOS with emoji reactions, voice commands and more

Microsoft has added some cool new features to Outlook mobile to make it as feature-rich as its competitors like Gmail. These new features include voice commands (we have already told you about this one), emoji reactions in emails and an expansion of Cortana support.

Microsoft is adding an Outlook calendar widget to the iPhone that will display upcoming meetings from multiple accounts on the home screen. Apple’s iOS 14 allows users to pull app widgets up to the Home Screen on the daily section and the Outlook calendar widget is an useful addition for this space particularly if you use Outlook for your work emails.

Microsoft is bringing similar improvements to the watchOS 7 with new complications for Outlook. Apple Watch users will be able to see the number of unread emails or the calendar complication that lists out days when you are free and busy.

Outlook mobile on both Android and iOS is getting voice commands by next month. These voice commands support calling, scheduling appointments and email authoring.

Microsoft is also expanding its ‘Play My Emails’ feature for Outlook mobile and this will be rolling out in Canada, Australia, India and the UK soon. This feature, which was exclusive to the US far, uses Cortana to read out emails and calendar invites on demand.

Outlook’s new features also include emoji reactions on social networks and these can be used on emails as well. These will be added later this year you will be able to use them to quickly respond to emails without letting them clog up the inbox.

Most of these new Outlook mobile additions are simply marked as coming soon or later this year, so we can expect to see them arrive over the coming months.
