Trying to tap into the latest technology to reach out to people, the Finance Ministry today launched its page on social networking site Facebook, which has around 700 million users worldwide.

Trying to tap into the latest technology to reach out to people, the Finance Ministry today launched its page on social networking site Facebook, which has around 700 million users worldwide.

'Once you join, you'll be able to connect with the Ministry of Finance Page, along with people you care about and other things that interest you,' said the invite sent out by the ministry.

As India's over USD 1 trillion economy is estimated to expand at around 8 per cent or more in the coming years, a large number of people will be able to participate in various discussions and post views on crucial issues such as inflation, financial inclusion and taxation.

Facebook has around 700 million user worldwide, with 25.77 million in India alone.

The Social networking site is not only a craze among the youngsters but even ministries and departments are taking help of these to reach out to the people, the invite said.

The page displays links to the Press Information Bureau and the Ministry's official website.

Users can write on the wall of the page, upload and view photographs, like a post, and also request for update through short messaging service and RSS feeds.
