Want to know the difference between an Asteroid and a Meteor? NASA explains

An asteroid is a small rocky object that orbits the sun and is smaller than a planet. It can be just a few feet across to many hundreds of kilometres.

An asteroid is larger than the pebble size objects we call meteoroids.

A meteor is what happens when a meteoroid  burns up upon entering Earth’s atmosphere, creating a streak of light in the sky.

Meteoroids are the pieces that form from the smashing of asteroids with each other which causes small pieces to break off

Most Asteroids are found in the main asteroid belt, the region between Mars and Jupiter

Meteoroids can also come from comets. Comets orbit the sun like asteroids but Comets are made of ice and dust not rock

If a meteoroid comes close enough to Earth's atmosphere it vaporizes and turns into a meteor, a streak of light in the sky.

Sometimes, meteoroids don't vapourize completely in the atmosphere.

If they survive their trip through the atmosphere and land on Earth, they are called Meteorites.
