As expected, PS5 pre-orders all sold out in minutes
Multiple retailers opened up pre-orders for the Sony PlayStation 5 today at noon and it was all sold out within minutes.
If you were hoping to bag a PlayStation 5, we have bad news. The console was restocked in India and opened up for pre-orders but they're all sold out now. Retailers like Amazon, Flipkart, Croma, Prepaidgamercard, Vijay Sales, Games the Shop, Reliance Digital, etc had all opened up pre-orders at noon today and it was a matter of minutes till they were all out.
According to reports, Flipkart was “sold out” even before noon, Games the Shop site crashed 15 minutes before pre-orders began and never came back up, Croma suffered outages before pre-order time but recovered soon, Prepaidgamercard suffered from timed-out connection errors before noon, Vijay Sales sold out within a minute and there was no “buy” option spotted on Sony Center or Reliance Digital.

To be honest, this is not surprising at all. We expected this to happen. This is indicative of the fact that Sony continues to bring very few PS5 units to India despite knowing that the demands are very high. At this point, we just have to accept that India is not a priority market for Sony when it comes to the PlayStation at least. And given that globally the demand for the PS5 is still outpacing the supply, this situation is not going to get better any time soon.
For India, this was the third round of PS5 pre-orders, just 10 days after the second one. As Gadgets360 points out, this is the same stock being split over two allotments. Also, only the ₹49,990 Standard Edition of the console was available this time round, it is possible that the Digital Edition sold out over the last pre-order.
If you are one of the lucky ones who managed to pre-order one, please take local lockdowns into consideration as you wait for the delivery. Flipkart and Sony Center say they will start delivering by June 7, Amazon has given an approximate delivery date between June 8 and June 11. And if you have not, we feel you. Better luck next time.
