Microsoft xCloud available in beta for Android users starting today

Microsoft is making its cloud gaming service available in beta ahead of the official launch on September 15.

Microsoft's cloud gaming service Project xCloud will launch on September 15. But before the official launch, Android users can try out xCloud in beta starting today. This will be possible through a new version of the Xbox Game Pass beta app on Google Play Store.

Microsoft is introducing xCloud as a cloud gaming feature of its Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Since it comes bundled with the service, users would need subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to try out cloud gaming. Microsoft confirmed to The Verge that its cloud gaming will be available in beta ahead of the official launch.

The beta version of xCloud will have around 30 titles for users to try out. Some of the confirmed games for xCloud include Minecraft Dungeons, Destiny 2, Tell Me Why, Gears 5, and Yakuza Kiwami 2. The official launch will have over 100 games for Android devices. Microsoft xCloud is compatible with the existing Xbox One Bluetooth Wireless and PlayStation DualShock 4 controllers. Microsoft has also partnered with Razer, PowerA, 8BitDo and Nacon for new accessories optimised for cloud gaming.

The new Xbox Game Pass beta app is now available on the Play Store. Microsoft is also launching the app on Samsung's Galaxy Store as part of their partnership. Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Tab S7 will have access to xCloud gaming at launch. Microsoft's xCloud is available only for Android users. It will not launch on iOS as Apple has blocked the cloud gaming service citing App Store policies. The same has been done for Google Stadia as well.
