Niantic adds Mega Evolution forms to Pokemon Go: Here’s how you can mega evolve your pocket monsters

In-game, you can handle these Mega Evolutions with a new resource called Mega Energy. Mega Energy can be earned by battling Mega Evolved Pokemon in raids.

Once you have mega evolved a Pokemon once, you will not need as much Mega Energy to do it again in the future. (The Verge)

Niantic is bringing in a new Mega Evolution feature to Pokemon Go. This means you will soon be able to have more powerful evolved forms of certain pokemon in the game. 

Mega Evolution was introduced to Pokemon series in Pokemon X and Y and was also seen in Sun and Moon. However, Mega Evolutions are not a part of the newer games like Sword and Shield. Pokemon Go Sword and Shield has a feature called Dynamax which is similar.

In-game, you can handle these Mega Evolutions with a new resource called Mega Energy. Mega Energy can be earned by battling Mega Evolved Pokemon in raids. Like we've mentioned before, not all Pokemon can be Mega Evolved. For now, you can only mega evolve a Beedril, Blastoise, Charizard and the Venusaur once you have enough Mega Energy.

In their Mega Evolved forms, the Pokemon are much stronger than before and this will help immensely while playing in higher levels.

Only one Mega Evolved Pokemon can be held at once which is possibly a nod to the effect's temporary nature as is the case in the mainline series, writes The Verge. There is also going to be a new Pokedex feature that will let you keep a track of which Pokemon you have mega evolved in the past.

Once you have mega evolved a Pokemon once, you will not need as much Mega Energy to do it again in the future.

Niantic will be holding various events throughout September focusing on Mega Evolutions, and there'll also be a new special research questline in the game.

The developers have not announced yet when this new feature is going to roll out.
