Sony opens registration for PlayStation 5 preorders, but it’s invitation only
Sony has said that there will be a limited quantity of PS5 consoles up for pre-orders, but you can book one only if you have an invitation.
Sony seems to be taking forever to launch the PlayStation 5. The company has opened online registrations to pre-book the PlayStation 5 from PlayStation directly, but you can only do so if you have an invite.
According to the announcement, there will be a limited quantity of PS5 consoles available for pre-order this holiday season and the invitation program is a chance for existing PlayStation customers to try their luck at being able to order the PlayStation 5 console first.
The FAQ page adds that filing out a registration form does not guarantee an invite that will allow you to pre-order the console. The invitations will be distributed based on previous interests and PlayStation activities.
And that’s not all. Even if you do bag an invite, a pre-order is not guaranteed. Each invitation is valid only for a limited time and there are limits on what you can pre-order.
Those with invites are limited to just a single console pre-order per PSN ID, two each of the new DualSense controllers and other PS5 accessories.
On top of that, you need a US address to ship your PS5 and accessories too. And the PlayStation 5 consoles are available only till stocks last. So, if you do get an invite, you have to act fast.
While all this is great, the announcement has no other details about the price or the date of launch of the PS5. The whole console battle between Microsoft and Sony is still on with neither company letting the price or the launch date slip.
