Google is expanding the functionality of the multi-room audio feature on its Nest devices. Users can already stream audio content like music and podcasts across more than one Google Home, Google Nest, or a Chromecast device. With the update that's about to roll in, Google is going to offer more control over devices that are playing music.

With the new update, users will be able to group speakers you want to play music on without manually having to create a speaker group. You can do this on the Nest's smart display by clicking on the lower left corner of the screen when a track is playing. This will pull up a list of speakers that can mirror the same content and all you need to do is choose.

Google is also rolling out another new feature called Steam transfer that will let users use voice commands to stop content on one device and continue it on another. This can be controlled between Nest and Chromecast devices. Also coming in is stereo pair that will let you listen to music on two Nest speakers with dual-channel separation.

Besides these, Google is adding the ability to ask a Nest device to “recommend new music”. The Nest will offer recommendations from either YouTube Music or a Premium Spotify account only for now.

The multi-room control interface has begun rolling out to all Nest Hub and Google Assistant-compatible smart displays and the feature will be coming to the Google Home App later this fall.
