Aadhaar FaceRD app launched; Now, confirm your ID with face authentication this way

UIDAI has launched Aadhaar FaceRD app using which card holders can authenticate themselves anytime, anywhere. Here is how to use the app.

Aadhaar card holders can now confirm their identity with the help of face authentication. An app called Aadhaar FaceRD App has been launched by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The application can be easily downloaded from the Google Play Store. As per the information, the app uses Face Authentication Technology to capture a live person's face for Aadhaar authentication. Also, face authentication can be used for various Aadhaar Authentication applications like Jeewan Praman, Ration Distribution (PDS), CoWin vaccination app, Scholarship schemes, Farmer Welfare Schemes.

Taking to its official Twitter handle, UIDAI on July 12 tweeted, “Residents are now using the #Aadhaar Face Authentication feature by downloading the #UIDAI #RDApp, which can be used for various #Aadhaar Authentication Apps like #JeevanPraman, #PDS, #Scholarship schemes, #COWIN, #FarmerWelfare schemes.” It can be known that Aadhaar Face Authentication technology has been developed inhouse by UIDAI.

According to the information provided by UIDAI, Aadhaar holders' identities, including their Aadhaar numbers and any demographic or biometric data, can be stored in the Central Identity Data Repository using face authentication.

After the launch of the app, now Aadhaar holders no longer need to carry physical identification by using Iris and Fingerprint scans by physically visiting their local Aadhaar enrollment centre. Through this verification, an Aadhaar holder's real identity is validated and recorded in the databases of UIDAI which was captured at the time of Aadhaar enrolment, a report by livemint said.

How to get Aadhaar FaceRD app

Step 1:

Android device users need to open Google Play Store app on their smartphone and search for Aadhaar FaceRD app.

Step 2:

Once the app appears on the screen, click on ‘Install’ and then open the app.

Step 3:

In order to perform face authentication, follow the on-screen face authentication guide and tap on ‘Proceed’.

Step 4:

For successful face authentication you need to face towards the light source, move closer to the camera, move to a different or clear background, and clean the camera lens before using.
