Now, even ordinary looking email can fill your computers or laptops with malware. Yes, you need to be careful before opening any random email. Emails are mostly used to communicate for official and personal work and cybercriminals are taking advantage by luring people with their email scams. People who are using Gmail, or any other emailing platform, are being warned to be aware of the fake mail that can fill their desktop or laptop with malware. If your computer gets affected with the malware, you can lose your personal data including bank details, pictures, files and much more.

Cybercriminals send messages and offer to protect people from malware attacks, but this is actually a scam that is being perpetrated to steal money. Shocking right! According to a tweet by ProPrivacy, the mail being used to scam people claims to be from McAfee and says that your computer could be at risk. It asks you to stay protected by getting McAfee now. What is more shocking is that the mail looks very authentic and real.

Once you click on the embedded link provided in the mail, it will take you to a fake website that then tries to extract personal details and even install vicious malware in your system.

But the question is how will you know which message is not safe to open? Before clicking on any mail you need to assure that the sender of the mail is authentic. You can simply Google it to check the same. Also, look for spelling errors and other minute details. Fraudsters generally use wrong spellings of the organisation whose name they want to use. You also need to be cautious before clicking on the embedded links attached with the mail as they will take you to websites that look official, but are actually fake..

Scam emails can also be identified by checking the sender's address. For example, if the sender's address does not end with the company's web domain it is most likely to be fake or fraud.

Informing about the same ProPrivacy tweeted, "There is currently a McAfee phishing scam in operation. Take steps to protect yourself, check to see if the email of the sender looks authentic, and look for other tell-tale signs of a scam such as spelling mistakes and embedded links to random sites."

Ignoring the above mentioned steps and clicking on random emails and links can lead you into trouble. You are advised to immediately delete such mails, if you think you have received any. Also, avoid giving any personal detail or access to random websites. And if it is important to share the details, then do it only when you are 100 percent sure about the authenticity of the sender and the mail.

In case, you think that you have shared or given any financial information on a phishing site, then you are advised to immediately inform your bank about the same.
