Garena Free Fire banned in India, but you can play Fortnite on your iPhone; Check how to do so
Just like Garena Free Fire, Fortnite is not available on the iPhone app store, but there is a way for you to play the latter. Find out how
There is good news for all the iPhone gamers still recovering from the Garena Free Fire ban that India slapped on this China-linked game on Monday. You might get to play Fortnite on your iPhone soon! There are some requirements to fulfill and a few simple steps to take, but if you can do that, you no longer have to worry about Garena Free Fire. For those still unaware, just like Free Fire now, Fortnite has been removed from the Apple App Store for trying to circumvent Apple's IAP (in-app purchase) system. While the game is not returning to the app store anytime soon, Nvidia's cloud-based gaming service GeForce Now has given Fortnite a way back to iPhone and iPad devices.
Fortnite was kicked out of the App Store in August 2020 for violating the IAP system. Epic Games, publisher of Fortnite, did it as a protest against Apple's IAP guidelines. After being removed, Epic Games filed a lawsuit against Apple but could not get reinstated back to Apple's App Store. But all of that is now a thing of the past. Piggybacking on Nvidia GeForce Now, Fortnite is going to come back to all iPhone users' lives.
Fortnite to make a comeback to iPhone and iPad
Nvidia GeForce is primarily made for PCs, but the company is working with Epic to implement mobile friendly touch screen controls for Fortnite. Additionally, players used to the console experience can always connect a bluetooth controller to have a more fun gaming experience. This is a big sigh of relief for all iPhone gamers upset after the ban of Garena Free Fire.
Right now, the Fortnite game is in close beta while Epic and Nvidia test out the touch controls. The testing began last month but it is going to stay in that stage for a while longer. However, if you are interested in playing, you can do so right now by registering for the closed beta testing using the link here. However, do keep in mind that there is a waitlist and users will be given access to the game in batches. But there is no guarantee that you will get the access. If you do, you can play the game for free, which might change after the full launch of Fortnite on GeForce Now.
You also have to set up GeForce Now on your iPhone or iPad device before you can start playing. This needs to be done as Apple's App Store bans all cloud-based gaming apps, meaning the only way you can access the platform is through the Safari browser. But that's not an issue as the website is built to give it a close-to app-like feel.
Follow these simple steps given below to access the website and start playing Fortnite, if and when you get the closed beta acceptance. Do this, and you can happily forget Garena Free Fire.
How to set up Nvidia GeForce Now on iPhone and iPad
Open Safari browser on your iPhone or iPad device.
Go to this website: play.geforcenow.com.
Tap the Share icon and add it to the Home Screen.
Give the shortcut a name as per your preference and press OK to save it.
You now have a GeForce Now web app shortcut on your home screen. You can move or delete it whenever you want.
Tap the web app to open it and accept the terms and conditions.
Press the icon in the top-right to sign into your GeForce Now account.
Tap the menu icon and go to Settings.
Finally, sync your Epic Games account with your GeForce Now account by following instructions on the screen. This will enable you to not only play Fortnite but all other Epic Game titles on GeForce.
