Instagram is one such application that lets you do the same. If you use Instagram for messaging, you can use it to do something special- send silent messages. Yes, the application has an ability to send a silent message. You can use this feature if you want to send messages without notifying friends late at night or when they're busy. Here is how to send a silent message in these simple steps.

Step 1:

Open Instagram on your smartphone, laptop or desktop. If you do not have an account on Instagram, you need to install the app on your smartphone and then create an account on it using your email ID, or phone number.

Step 2:

Now, in order to send a message you will have to click on the message icon available on the top right corner. Then look for the person to whom you want to send the silent message and click on his/her chat.

Step 3:

You can now type the message you want to send by adding “@silent” in front of the text. For example- @silent (Space) (Message) that is, '@silent How are you?'

Step 4:

After you have written the message that you want to send silently, the last thing you need to do is to click on the send button. The message will then be sent to the person without disturbing him/her.

Step 5:

It can be noted that Instagram also has a feature to mute a chat. But there is a difference between muting messages and sending a silent message. A message can be muted from the receiver's end while the silent message can be sent from the sender's side.
