Redmi's first laptop in the country is part of the company's ‘phone-plus’ strategy that was adopted last year.

RedmiBook, Xiaomi’s first Redmi-branded laptop now has an official launch date. The company on Tuesday confirmed that it will launch its first laptop on August 3, and the announcement comes a few days after it teased the new device, which has previously been launched in three different variants in China. The company had adopted a new phone-plus strategy, and the new RedmiBook will be sold alongside Xiaomi’s Mi Notebook line that was launched in the country last year.

While the company has launched the RedmiBook alongside the RedmiBook Pro and the RedmiBook Air in China, it has not specified whether Indian users will have access to the RedmiBook or its variants soon. The poster shared by Redmi shows a regular notebook design, but users should not take the device as the final design as it could merely be for illustrative purposes.

Last week Xiaomi launched the newest member of its Redmi Note 10 family – the Redmi Note 10T 5G. At the same event, it also teased the phrase “RedmiBoo” towards the end of the event. Xiaomi already offers a wide portfolio of laptops to its users in India. The list includes Mi Notebook 14 Horizon, Mi Notebook 14 (IC), Mi Notebook 14 and Mi Notebook 14 e-Learning Edition.

While this will be the first RedmiBook to launch in India, the company has been selling the same line of laptops in China for the past two years, with the latest models featuring the latest Intel 11th Gen and AMD Ryzen 5000 series chipsets. The device is expected to have the same aggressive pricing that the company offers on its mobile devices when it is launched in the country and could give other manufacturers a run for their money.

“Last year, Redmi became more than a smartphone brand with a phone-plus strategy. We have launched products that would complement your phone and your lifestyle, like power banks, earbuds, and smart bands. This year, we took a step further and ventured even into the smart television segment. And now, we have something very interesting coming up. Are you ready to #SuperStart life with #RedmiBook?” the company stated in its launch event invite.
