October is usually the month when Apple launches a new Mac or an iPad. The tradition could continue tonight but not in the same way as before. If the latest leak has an ounce of truth, Apple could quietly announce the new iPad Pro models tonight. Yes, the new iPad Pro launch for later tonight. However, the only update to the iPad Pro is likely to be the chipset and Apple may not host a separate launch event for it.

Based on the latest tip from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, it is said that Apple could launch the new iPad Pro models silently tonight. The only upgrade these models will have is the new M2 chip, which debuted earlier this year on the MacBook Air at the WWDC 22 event. Rest of the package is expected to remain unchanged. Apple is yet to announce anything on this front, which is why you should take this with a grain of salt.

The updated iPad Pro models will be available in the same two screen sizes as before – 11-inches and 12.9-inches. The 12.9-inch model is expected to retain the Mini LED display from the M1 model, and both of them should remain pretty much the same. The new M2 chip should slightly boost performance and power efficiency.

Not sure which
mobile to buy?

Note that the M2 chip is not much different from the M1 chip. We tried out the MacBook Air M2 earlier this year and in the real world, the performance gains have been minor. However, the laptop impresses us with its stellar battery life.

While the updated iPad Pro models are expected to please power users, Gurman has hinted at Apple planning to turn the iPad into a home hub device, similar to what Google is doing with the Pixel tablet. He also says that Apple could be announcing the updated variants of the MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch models later this year, both with mildly tweaked variants of the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips.

The biggest update is expected to come to the base iPad, which could gain the USB-C port, slimmer bezels, a side-mounted Touch ID sensor, and a more powerful chipset.
