Apple to start manufacturing iPhone 12 in India soon

Apple’s iPhone 12 devices are going to be made in India soon for the local customers.

Apple has announced that it is going to start making its iPhone 12 in India soon. The devices made in the country will be for local customers only. Apple launched the iPhone 12 series globally last year and despite a slightly late start as compared to other years, the devices did very well.

"Apple is dedicated to making the best products and services in the world to delight our customers. iPhone 12 features a sleek flat-edge design and brings impressive new capabilities, including advanced computational photography, an expansive edge-to-edge Super Retina XDR display with OLED for a brighter, more immersive viewing experience, a new Ceramic Shield front cover, providing the biggest jump in durability ever on iPhone, and is powered by A14 Bionic, the fastest chip in a smartphone. We are proud to be starting production of iPhone 12 in India for our local customers,” Apple said in a statement.

The iPhone 12 series contained the iPhone 12 mini, the iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Apple is going to only manufacture the iPhone 12 here now our of the new lot. 

The iPhone 12 is not the first phone Apple is manufacturing in India. Apple started making smartphones here with the iPhone SE back in 2017. It currently is making the iPhone XR and the iPhone 11 in India - two other bestsellers from the Apple arsenal. Given that the iPhone 12 did significantly well in terms of sales, the decision to make this particular model in India is not surprising. 

Apple managed to double its smartphone market share in India to nearly 4% in the last festive quarter riding on the iPhone XR, iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 sales, according to IANS.

The iPhone 12 pretty much acted like a bridge between the smaller iPhone 12 mini and the more expensive iPhone 12 Pro. You can read our review of the iPhone 12 here.

Apple's iPhone 12 models are environmentally friendly as well. The models utilise 100% recycled rare earth elements in all their magnets, Taptic Engine, new cameras, in the MagSafe as well as in the other Apple MagSafe accessories. Apple's India suppliers are also using solar energy and wind energy for their power needs.
