Google has just announced the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro at its global launch event. The successor to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, both the Pixel 7 models will come to India this year after a gap of three years. Google is announcing a bunch of new smart software based features to take on the iPhone 14 series and Samsung's Galaxy S22 series devices. In fact, Google did not spare the opportunity to take a dig at Apple, mocking it for all the features the iPhone 14 Pro debuted this year. And yes, a dig at iMessage was also present.

Google is bringing the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro to India and the prices have been announce already. The Pixel 7 is priced at Rs. 59,999 and the Pixel 7 Pro is priced at Rs. 84,999. Both devices will be available for purchase starting October 13. These are much less than the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. Google is also offering up to Rs. 8,500 on the Pixel 7 Pro as cashback, and Rs. 6000 on the Pixel 7.

The hero at the Pixel 7's heart is the Tensor G2 chip, which enables all the on-device smarts. Along with the Titan M2 chip, Google promises a secure Android experience. In fact, Google has promised up to five years of security updates on the Pixel 7 series, although nothing on the number of Android OS updates yet.

The Tensor G2 chip allows the Digital Wellbeing app to detect your sleep using your snoring data, and all the data is processed on the device. The Privacy and Security section has Action Cards to notify of safety risks. To enhance the secure experience further, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will come with VPN services powered by Google One at no extra cost.

The Tensor G2 chip also enables some of the smartest features one can expect. The Tensor G2 has a dedicated TPU for hosting Google on device, and Google says it is more power efficient. The phone now allows the Voice search to detect emojis, transcribe voice messages in Messages, detect separate speakers in the Voice Recorder app, and also have a Clear Calling feature to keep your voice clear by filtering out ambient noise.

The Pixel 7 gets a 6.3-inch display that has 25% higher peak brightness. Google promises an all day battery life, a larger front camera sensor, a dual rear camera system. The Pixel 7 Pro has a larger 6.7-inch display with a variable refresh rate of 10Hz-120Hz, a triple rear camera with upgraded telephoto and ultrawide camera, and a new selfie camera with face unlock feature relying on AI smartness.

Cameras

As for the cameras, there are certain updates. Google says the new chip allows for even better skin tones than before, even in Night Sight shots. Night Sight itself is now faster in taking the photos and it reduces the blur using machine learning. In fact, it uses the main and ultrawide cameras, along with machine learning to sharpen faces in photos. Photo Unblur on Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro uses Tensor G2 ML to remove blur and noise from old photos.

The Super Res Zoom uses the 50MP camera for 2x zoom, it also uses 1X and 5X zoom camera for fusing images to give clearer zoom shots under 5X magnification, AI and and pixel binning come together to offer improved 10X zoom photos. The new ultrawide camera has autofocus, which allows you to take macro shots.

As for videos, the Cinematic Blur allows for portrait videos, just like iPhone's Cinematic mode. One can also shoot 10-bit HDR videos on the camera. The speech enhancement and 4K recording at 60 fps are now available across all Pixel 7 cameras. Google also promises better video stabilisation.

For the selfie camera, Google is using a new sensor to offer brighter photos. The Guided Frame feature will now allow physically challenged users to take selfies with the help of voice and haptics.
