Google Pixel 6a Short Review: A better iPhone SE, should you buy it?
Google Pixel 7
1/5 Google Pixel 6a gets the new Pixel 6 design. With its dual-tone colours and the bold camera visor, the Pixel 6a looks refreshing. The plastic rear is complimented by a metal frame, and a Gorilla Glass 3 front. There is IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. (Amritanshu / HT Tech)

2/5 Google Pixel 6a retains the same dual 12MP rear cameras as the Pixel 4a. Despite the old camera sensors, the Pixel 6a impresses with its still photography capabilities, especially at night. The selfie camera is equally good and full of smart features. Video recording is decent but not as good as the iPhone SE. (Amritanshu / HT Tech)

3/5 Google Pixel 6a currently runs Android 13 and the OS is bathed in Material You design. You get basic customisation features to play with and the Google smart features only elevate the experience.  (Amritanshu / HT Tech)

4/5 Google Pixel 6a relies on a 4410 mAh battery that can easily last an entire day on a single charge. Sadly, there's no charger in the box and the slow 18W charging takes over two hours to refill the battery from dead.  (Amritanshu / HT Tech)

5/5 Google Pixel 6a features a 6.1-inch OLED display with FHD+ resolution. While the display is bright and vivid, the slow 60Hz refresh rate is an eyesore. The optical in-display fingerprint scanner works decently as well. (Amritanshu / HT Tech)

Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro to launch in India soon. (Google)

The return of the Google Pixel lineup to India was marked a few months ago by the Pixel 6a, and now Google is readying its iPhone challenger. The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will be launching in India, thereby succeeding Google's last flagship phones for India from 2018 – the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. Ahead of the launch, Google has already started teasing its Pixel phones for India. We already know how both the phones look and going forward, we have a pretty good idea about the colours.

Google India has confirmed bringing the Pixel 7 as well as Pixel 7 Pro to India in three colour variants. The first one is the Obsidian (black with grey accents), Snow (white with silver accents), and Hazel (light green with gold accents). Compared to the iPhone 14 colours, the number is quite low. However, the Pixel 7 gets notable cosmetic changes over the Pixel 6, which itself was a pretty phone, and continues to stand out even today.

Google Pixel 7 colours revealed

Other than the colour variants, the design has also been shown and we know that the Pixel 7 largely keeps the same design as its predecessor, except for a couple of refinements as well as copious use of colours. A recent leak also revealed the entirety of the specifications sheet and not much has changed this time.

The Pixel 7 Pro will get an upgraded Tensor G2 chip, which is expected to offer notable performance upgrades. It is also said to come with 12GB RAM as standard, and a choice of 128GB as well as 256GB storage. The display remains the same; a 6.7-inch QHD+ OLED display with a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz.

The camera setup also remains similar but with new image sensors. Google will ditch the Sony IMX582 sensor and use a 48MP Samsung GM1 sensor for the telephoto camera. The 50MP main camera and the 12MP ultra-wide camera remain unchanged. The selfie camera remains the same at 11MP but a new Samsung sensor and autofocus capability are additions for 2022.

The Pixel 7 Pro will continue to use the 5000mAh battery and offer support for 30W wired charging. There will be support for Qi standard wireless charging as well.

What remains to be seen is how Google prices the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro in India. Previous Pixel flagships always competed with the iPhones of the year, and we expect the Pixel 7 series to take the fight to the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, and Galaxy S22 Plus.
