This will come as a horrific update for iPhone users. Apple is rumored to be suspending all updates for as many as 3 iPhones. The tech giant is also speculated to be killing off the fan-favorite original iPhone SE. When is Apple expected to kill off iPhone SE and other iPhones? Probably after the release of Apple iOS 16. A French tech news site, iPhoneSoft, has reported that the company would kill off the original iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 6s Plus.

This creates a big problem for owners of obsolete models as it overlooks the future security updates, leaving them exposed to cyber crooks. This puts these iPhones users at greater risk of being hacked as vulnerabilities are no longer patched by Apple's engineers. Apart from that, these iPhone users will not be able to use their handsets for social media apps like WhatsApp either.

WhatsApp too cites reasons like weak security on the old phones to stop them from using its app.

Apple culls iPhone's older models from its list every year after new OS update

Notably, every year, the company kills older iPhone models from its list of handsets that are not compatible with newer versions of iOS. Like every year, this year too, the company seems to have selected older models for the chop when iOS 16 rolls around next summer.

These phones were released in 2015 and 2016 respectively. The publication also shared that Apple will also cull a number of older iPads namely the iPad mini 4, iPad Air 2, iPad (fifth-generation), and the 2015 iPad Pro models.

Software updates are extremely important for Apple users as they not only add brand new features, but also fixes bugs that improve the performance of your handset. It also updates the security features that prevent hackers from cracking your phone's security using old exploits.

Meanwhile, Apple has rolled out the iOS 15.2 update a few weeks back only and is yet to announce its plans for iOS 16. So, any claims about it cannot be confirmed. These are speculations.

Apple will host the WWDC 2022 developer event in June 2022 and is speculated to unveil the latest iOS 16 update there only. The company is expected to launch iOS 16 a few months later, in September.

It's worth noting that Apple offers software updates to the phones that were launched 6 years ago like iPhone 6S which was introduced in 2015, whereas most of the android smartphones receive three or four years of updates only.
