How to schedule Voice Chats on the latest Telegram beta, just like Clubhouse

While social audio app Clubhouse is still working on an Android version of its popular voice-based service, competitors have not only brought cross-platform support for both iOS and Android but also begun copying some useful features. Telegram, a popular chat service that launched its Voice Chats feature for channels in December, is reportedly testing the ability to ‘schedule' them --- just like Clubhouse.

Instead of posting updates on your channel about a planned Voice Chat session to discuss, say, the launch of a new device or a virtual meetup with a celebrity, users can instead schedule a Voice Chat inside the Telegram app. This new feature was first spotted by TestingCatalog and is expected to arrive in a future version of the app's stable release.

Scheduling a voice chat will pin a notification in your channel that will remind them that the event will start at a specific time. This goes a step further than Clubhouse, which simply shows you a chronological list of all your upcoming events. Users will also see a countdown at the top of the channel, informing them about the time your voice chat will begin.

You can already begin scheduling Voice Chats in Telegram, if you run a channel and want to host a discussion at a later time. Here's how you can get started with scheduled Voice Chats.

Step 1: Sign up for the beta version of the Telegram app on the Google Play Store.

Step 2: Make sure you've installed version 7.7.0 of the app, which is the latest beta version.

Step 3: Now go to your channel and look at the menu, you should see the familiar option to start a Voice Chat.

Step 4: Tap on the button to schedule your Voice Chat and choose a time, then tap Start.

The report also points out that Telegram's latest beta allows users to modify their name and description while they're part of a Voice Chat, without having to leave it. This is reportedly due to several users browsing other profiles during these events and moderators picking users to invite them to speak. The company has now added the ability to quickly change your bio and name on the app while part of a Voice Chat on the beta version of the app.
