iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max to get high refresh rate OLED displays

1/6 According to market research agency Omdia, both the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Max will have LTPS and LTPO OLED display panels, and have a higher refresh rate. Samsung is expected to manufacture the displays of the current and next generation of iPhones as always. (FrontPageTech)

2/6 The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini currently have a locked 60Hz refresh rate, much to the disappointment of consumers. Now, Apple is expected to bump that up to 90 or 120Hz, which is a stark contrast to other smartphone manufacturers who are providing high refresh displays even in budget phones these days. 4/6 Hints of Variable Refresh Rate have already been seen in iPhones with Apple’s Pro Motion technology which allows the iPhone to switch the display’s refresh rate between 10 Hz and 120Hz, depending on the content. For example, if you’re reading something on the browser, the refresh rate might drop to 10Hz to save battery, while it can go up to 120Hz while you’re gaming. (FrontPageTech)

iPhone 14 Plus! You may need to remember this name after September 7 if you decide to buy the new 6.7-inch iPhone 14 expected to replace the iPhone 13 Mini. Rumours have long suggested that Apple will discontinue the iPhone Mini and replace it with a bigger version of the 6.1-inch iPhone 14. The strategy will be similar to the time before the iPhone X launch, when Apple used to have a regular iPhone and its Plus-sized version. It is now said that Apple could call its 6.7-inch iPhone the iPhone 14 Plus, thereby bringing back the “Plus” moniker.

Based on a report from 9To5Mac, it is said that the 6.7-inch standard iPhone will indeed be called the iPhone 14 Plus. Previously, many suggested that Apple could simply call this bigger 6.7-inch iPhone the iPhone 14 Max, given that the existing 6.7-inch iPhone in the iPhone 13 lineup is called the iPhone 13 Pro Max. It is also said that case makers have been asked to not use the iPhone 14 Max brand name for the larger iPhone 14 version.

iPhone 14 Plus will be the big 6.7-inch iPhone

With the Plus moniker utilised once again, it will be easier for both Apple and customers to relate to the ever confusing iPhone lineup. There will be the standard 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and this bigger 6.7-inch iPhone will be simply a “Plus-sized” version, called the iPhone 14 Plus. The iPhone 14 Pro Max could now represent the very best of Apple smartphone technology all maxed out.

Note that Apple is yet to hint anything on the 6.7-inch big iPhone 14 and hence, you should wait for an official announcement from Apple. Other than the rumoured 6.7-inch display size, it is said that the iPhone 14 Plus could also get a larger battery capacity almost the same as the iPhone 13 Pro Max. It could also end up with all the standard iPhone 14 upgrades we get this year.

Did You Know?

Apple came up with the “Plus” moniker first in 2014 for the iPhone 6 series. At the time, the iPhone 6 Plus had a larger 5.5-inch display and a larger capacity battery. Later, the iPhone 7 Plus got the first dual camera setup on the iPhone lineup while the iPhone 8 Plus retained that exclusivity. The iPhone XS generation ended the Plus moniker and moved to the “Max” moniker.
