The iPhone 14 may not be much of an upgrade if the latest rumours come out to be true! Every year, Apple introduces an upgraded new chipset with that year's new iPhone, and every year, we see Apple commending an unparalleled edge over its rivals. That may not be the case this year with the vanilla editions of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max, as Apple could be reserving the A16 chip only for the Pro variants of the iPhone 14.

And it comes from an authentic source whose predictions are mostly right! Yes, popular analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that Apple has plans to reuse the A15 Bionic chipset for the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max. These phones will also get the slower LPDDR4X RAM, which will no be 6GB as standard across the range. Has Apple ran out of innovation potential for its chipset division?

iPhone 14 series to get weird chip choices

On the other hand, Kuo says that Apple's upgraded A16 chipset will only make it to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max only! These models will also get the faster LPDDR5 RAM, and have 6GB RAM as standard.

This won't be the first time Apple uses the same chip once again on its next-gen product. The current-gen Apple Watch Series 7 shares the same chip as the Apple Watch Series 6. Despite the old chip, the Series 7 is still the fastest smartwatch money can buy.

In case of the A15 Bionic chip, it is currently commanding a notable lead in performance over the equivalent Snapdragon or MediaTek chips that are used by Android flagships. Apple's last-gen A14 on the iPhone 12 can handle everything with ease even after the iPhone 13 came out. Hence, most generic users shouldn't be missing out on performance.

But then again, these are rumours and with almost six months left for the iPhone 14 to arrive on the shelves, things could change. And, Apple likes to paves rumours wrong these days, as we witnessed with the Watch Series 7 last year.

If the A15 is reused for the iPhone 14, will you consider investing in the iPhone 13 for another year, considering Apple could drop its prices once the new one launches.
