Lucked out and how! Man orders apples and got a new iPhone instead

Don’t get too optimistic though, this was a part of a promotional campaign being run by a supermarket chain in the UK. So, don’t go ordering apples from Big Bazar right now.

Online shopping is a bit of a hit and miss. Sometimes you get exactly what you've ordered, and sometimes you don't. But rarely do you luck out the way some people in the UK have. A customer in the UK ordered some apples online and got a brand new Apple iPhone in the bag instead.

Nick James, 50, had ordered apples on the Tesco website. When James went to collect the groceries from the company's local store in Twickenham, he was told that there was a ‘surprise' in the box. James opened the box to find an iPhone SE inside.

“Apparently we ordered apples and randomly got an apple iphone! Made my sons week!” James tweeted and shared images of the device along with a card explaining what just happened. And the best part perhaps is, he also got his fruits! James' tweet created quite a buzz online “I was half expecting the surprise to be an Easter egg or something – I was a little bit shocked to say the least,” James told the Daily Mirror.

As the Metro reports, this “surprise” was intentional and a part of a promotional campaign called “super substitute” where Tesco Mobile is surprising ‘click and collect' members by replacing their orders.

“Tesco Mobile is giving away 80 items in total until April 18 at a handful of stores. Winners are chosen at random, and you need to purchase certain items to be in with a chance of getting a ‘super substitute',” Metro explained.

“Tesco Mobile's ‘Super Subs' has been created to show how amazing things can happen when the worlds of supermarket and mobile come together – all while putting a smile on shopper's faces,” Tesco said in a statement.

And James is one of the few people who lucked out. Other customers have received AirPods and Samsung Galaxy devices as a part of this campaign and many tweeted to share their surprise gifts.

While we've heard enough stories of people NOT receiving what they've ordered, this is a pleasant surprise. And yes, we wish we could get this lucky too.
