Do you like massive tablets? If yes, there's some good news heading your way. Apple is apparently working on a new iPad model with a display measuring a mega 14-inches! That stat makes this rumoured iPad way bigger than the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, which is already among the largest tablets you can buy. Initially, this was expected to be a new variant of the iPad Pro, getting all the bells and whistles from Apple. Going forward, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Display analyst Ross Young suggests that the massive 14-inch iPad Apple is working on will miss out on a couple of iPad niceties. One of them is the 120Hz refresh rate feature, which has been a staple on all iPad Pro models. Given that Apple reserves this for its Pro iPads, this 14-inch variant won't be carrying the iPad Pro moniker.

Apple iPad 14-inch is happening

What remains to be seen is whether this massive iPad is going to sit under the iPad Pro. Apple has been lately focusing on the iPadOS lately, with the latest iPadOS 16 getting some features from the latest macOS Venturi. With a massive 14-inch iPad, having access to more desktop-grade features could help with the overall user experience.

On the other hand, Young says that the next 11-inch iPad Pro is also not expected to get the mini-LED display – a feature which has been present on the larger 12.9-inch iPad Pro since April 2021. It is said that Apple is expected to update both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models with the new M2 chip. The M2 chip was just announced for the new MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro models.

With the new iPad lineup and updates to iPadOS, it seems that Apple wants to make the iPad the entry point into its computing space, with the Macs reserved for professionals. The Stage Manager feature on the new iPadOS 16 enables to you to multitask exactly the same way as macOS Venturi , and allows users to run up to 8 apps simultaneously.

Apple has also been busy putting PC chips on its tablets. The iPad Air is the latest model to get the Apple Silicon treatment, ditching the A15 Bionic chip for the M1 chip from the MacBook Air. The M1 chip offers a far superior performance on the iPad Air for those who are into video editing.
