Nothing Phone (1) Glyph light strip peels off, dust inside too!
Our unit of the Nothing Phone (1) has shown the LED light strip peeling off on its own. The Phone (1) has also seen other issues from buyers.
Nothing Phone (1) is all the hype these days owing to its unique Glyph LED light show stuck to its beautiful transparent back. However, as expected from a startup brand, the company has been struggling to produce enough of these Phone (1) units for consumers. Additionally, there have been reports of several quality control issues with the Phone (1), mostly pertaining to its display. Now, we have unearthed another issue with our unit of the Nothing Phone (1) and that concerns its most hyped feature – the Glyph interface.
We have been using the Nothing Phone (1) for a couple of days now and we observed an issue with the LED light strip from the Glyph interface. A closer look at the light bar situated to the top right corner reveals that it is peeling off on its own. Thanks to the transparent back, the light strip can be seen coming out on its own (look at the yellow glue underneath the strip). Does this pose a safety issue with the phone? We have no idea as of now.

At the moment, the Glyph interface is working as advertised – putting on a light show every time there's a notification. It seems that the glue holding the light strip to the back of the phone may have come out due to the severe heat and humid conditions we endure in Delhi NCR. However, that poses a question on the quality control Nothing is exercising at the manufacturing level.
Additionally, we have also observed dust ingress underneath the transparent back of the Phone (1). For phone that is IP53 certified, this shouldn't be the case.
Prior to this, there have been report for several Nothing Phone (1) users facing issues with the display. Some users have complained of a green tint issue over dark backgrounds whereas others have reported of dead pixels around the selfie camera cutout. One of the buyers even asked for a replacement unit and that too came up with the same issue.
Nothing is yet to comment on all these quality control issues but for a company that only sees Apple as its rival in the industry, this paints a bad picture. At the moment, we have stopped using our unit of the Phone (1) until we get a fix for the issue. Keep an eye for all the latest updates.
