Old Samsung Galaxy M, Galaxy A phones reportedly breaking down

Samsung Galaxy A and Galaxy M series owners are complaining of dead motherboard issues on the Samsung Community forums.

Samsung has been banking on the Samsung Galaxy A and Samsung Galaxy M series lately to strengthen its position against Xiaomi, Realme and Motorola in India. To keep up with the competition, we have seen some Galaxy A and M series phones this year with good specs, some of which have impressed critics and buyers alike. However, the older models from yesteryears don't seem to be holding up well with ageing.

If some latest reports are to be believed, owners of old Samsung Galaxy A and Samsung Galaxy M series devices are witnessing breakdowns on a hardware level. A SamMobile report (which was taken down later, later reported by India Today) threw light on a couple of complaints from users of these specific models. Most of them speak about a motherboard failure, requiring a complete replacement from the service center. The issues are mostly visible on Exynos powered models.

Users on the Samsung Community forum have mostly complained about their phones dying suddenly. Post an inspection at the service center, Samsung technicians confirm a motherboard failure on these devices.

Going through the majority of these posts, it seems the issue persists mostly with Exynos powered models from the Galaxy A and Galaxy M series phones. In fact, the Galaxy M30s appears to be the most affected here, garnering the greatest number of complaints. One user has also posted a similar issue on a Galaxy M51, a phone that relied on the Snapdragon 730G chip instead of the popular Exynos 9611.

Samsung is yet to come out with an official statement on this matter. As for those affected by the issue, they do not seem to have any solution yet.

“I have been using A51, within 1.5 years, the motherboard crashed for no reason, Service center told me for the replacement of motherboard which will cost around ₹ 9000 , I regret making decision to buy Samsung phone. when I enquired, I came to know mostly all phones in A series are facing this issue,” says one user.

Another user going by the alias mahiamita says, “I am facing problem in my Samsung galaxy M30s after updation. I was update my phone on 10 Aug and after complete downloading I click on install button then my phone get auto restart. In the process of restarting my phone's screen stopped on logo of Samsung galaxy M30s…then I had been visit many service centres of Samsung and they advised me that I should change motherboard of my phone. Which cost is approx 8000rs. it's equal to Half cost of phone price.”
