Oppo execs hint at multiple Qualcomm Snapdragon 875’s ‘lite’ versions, Snapdragon 860 to launch soon
The tipster added that this piece of information was revealed by some Oppo executives during a meeting. Some execs also talked about ‘Snapdragon 860’, processor which hasn’t launched yet.
Qualcomm might just do what it hasn’t in years – launch a ‘Lite’ version of its flagship 8xx processor series. The company, which has Snapdragon 865 and 865+ as the only two versions of the chipset right now, may announce multiple versions of the upcoming Snapdragon 875 as well, says Digital Chat Station, on Twitter. The tipster added that this piece of information was revealed by some Oppo executives during a meeting. Some execs also talked about ‘Snapdragon 860’, processor which hasn’t launched yet.
The Digital Chat Station handle even names the two Oppo executives - Liu Bo and Li Zi Gui were present in the meeting. The company CEO Liu Zuohu — or Pete Lau as we know him, was also said to be present.
没听错的话，绿厂产品沟通会上说的是骁龙860？然后骁龙875系列可能也会有lite版本。绿厂的下一代新机依旧将轻薄贯彻到底。— Digital Chat Station (@StationChat) August 6, 2020

Having multiple versions including the ‘Lite’ variant of Snapdragon 875 will probably solve one of the big issues faced by OEM players this year with Snapdragon 865. With 865, manufacturers find it more expensive to integrate a chipset that doesn’t integrate a 5G modem. The modem has to be added separately, which adds to the cost. The ‘Lite’ variant of Snapdragon 875 may solve this problem.
Although the tipster mentions Qualcomm Snapdragon 860, it might be a possibility that this chipset won’t every launch. As Android Authority speculates, if Qualcomm sticks with its launch plan like every year, it will introduce the rumoured Snapdragon 875 by end of this year. This doesn’t leave it with enough time frame to launch the Snapdragon 860. In addition, the model number suggests it to be the lighter version of Snapdragon 865 but Qualcomm is already giving Snapdragon 765G, which it launched alongside the 865 late last year.
