Qualcomm unveils gaming-oriented Snapdragon 732G, Poco to launch the first phone with the new chip

Riding on the popularity of mid-range focused Snapdragon 730G chip, Qualcomm has launched an upgraded SD 732G processor. The new SoC is promised to deliver better mobile gaming experience on mid-tier phones.

Qualcomm on Monday announced the launch of Snapdragon 732G processor. Aimed at delivering superior gaming experience on mid-range smartphones, Snapdragon 732G leverages upon advanced AI algorithms as well as upgraded GPU and CPU performance. Poco will be the first smartphone company to launch a Snapdragon 732G-based processor.

Qualcomm's new processor brings an upgraded Qualcomm Kryo 470 CPU Prime core with clock speeds up to 2.3GHz. The processor also features an amplified Adreno 618 GPU which is said to deliver better graphics rendering.

Apart from the above-mentioned upgrades, Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G processor comes with Snapdragon Elite Gaming technology which is said to help improve gameplay as well as deliver more realistic colours. The chip also runs on a 4th generation AI Engine to give users more accurate predictive user experiences.

Qualcomm claims the chipset delivers better battery power efficiency through an optimised distributed intelligence. The chipset also has Snapdragon X15 LTE modem for faster download and upload speeds.

"We are extremely excited about the upcoming POCO smartphone and our collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies that allowed us to create the first device on the market with the latest Snapdragon 732G Mobile Platform,” said Sam Jiang, head of products, POCO Global. “We believe the device will set a new benchmark in the mid-range category, completely redefining the relationship between a phone's price and its capabilities."

“We're thrilled to be working once again with Qualcomm Technologies to bring a sophisticated user experience for our users with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G Mobile Platform. We're hoping all our fans, especially the gaming community, appreciate the offering,” Manmohan Chandolu, General Manager, POCO India said.

Poco did not reveal the name of the phone but reports suggest it could be the Poco X3. Already, the company has been teasing the phone on its social media handles. The phone is said to offer 64-megapixel camera and improved battery life.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G key specifications

Qualcomm's new processor comes with Spectra 350 image signal processor. It supports HEIF photo capture, up to 192-megapixel resolution, up to 4K HDR video recording at 30fps, and real-time object classification, segmentation and replacement.

For display, it supports QHD+ resolution, HDR and comes with Qualcomm low power picture enhancement and true palette display feature.

Apart from Adreno 618GPU, it comes with support for true HDR10 gaming, Vulkan 1.1 API support, 4K HDR10 PQ and HLG Video Playback (10-bit colour depth, Rec. 2020 colour gamut), H.264 (AVC), H.265 (HEVC) VP8 and VP9 playback, and physically based rendering. APIs supported are OpenGL® ES 3.2, OpenCL 2.0 FP, Vulkan 1.1, and DirectX 12.
