Realme on Thursday launched its affordable Realme 8 5G smartphone in the country, bringing the company's successor to the Realme 7 series to the Indian smartphone market. With a quad rear camera, punch hole display and glass back the Realme 8 5G bears a similar resemblance to the 4G variant of the Realme 8 that was recently launched by the company but comes with some important changes under the hood.

The Realme 8 5G is powered by the 7nm Mediatek Dimensity 700 5G chipset, and is the first device to launch with the SoC in the country. The highlight of this device is the 5G connectivity, which will feature dual SIM, dual standby 5G support with standalone and non-standalone support for optimal Wi-Fi and 5G dual network acceleration, according to Realme. The device weighs 185 grams, and the company says it had to increase the number of antennae in the device by 200 percent, which required changes to the device's structure.

The device will be available in two memory and storage variants – 4GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB. Realme is touting a feature called Dynamic RAM expansion on the new device, which reportedly works like ‘swap' memory on Linux, using the storage to “increase” the device's LPDDR4x RAM capacity to 5GB and 11 GB respectively. The device's UFS 2.1 internal memory can be upgraded to 1TB via a Micro SD card.

On the camera front, Realme has included a triple camera setup featuring a 48 MP Samsung GM1 primary sensor, a monochrome sensor and a macro sensor. On the front is a 16 MP selfie shooter that is housed in a punch hole on the 6.5-inch full HD LCD Dragontrail glass display with a 90 Hz refresh rate. The device features a side-mounted fingerprint sensor which is located on the power button.

It will be available in Supersonic Blue and Supersonic Black variants for 14,999 for the 4GB/64GB storage variant, while the 6GB/128GB variant is priced at 16,999. The device will be sold from April 28, at 12 PM, via Realme.com, Flipkart and offline stores.
