Samsung teases Galaxy Z Fold 2 Thom Browne Edition ahead of Unpacked Part 2 event

Samsung will provide more details about its next-generation foldable phone, Galaxy Z Fold 2, tomorrow. The phone will also be accompanied by a special edition. Here is what you need to know.

Here is your first look at Galaxy Z Fold 2 Thom Browne Edition (Samsung)

Samsung will showcase a special edition of Galaxy Z Fold 2 at its Unpacked Part 2 virtual event, which is scheduled to take place on September 1. The new version has been developed in collaboration with New York City-based fashion designer Thom Browne. The phone will debut as Galaxy Z Fold 2 Thom Browne Edition.

Ahead of the official unveiling, Samsung has released a 1-minute teaser video to give a preview of the phone. The promo video focuses on “symmetry” of the new variant. In the video (at 0:33), you can also see the Thom Browne Edition up close.

The special edition does not look very different from the main version announced earlier this month. There is a tri-colour strip at the centre of the grey back panel. The camera module has also been recoloured to match the overall theme.

Galaxy Z Fold 2 Thom Browne Edition is likely to be more expensive than the standard model of the foldable phone. The company had partnered with the designer for a similar special edition of the Galaxy Z Flip. The Thom Browne Edition of the Flip cost $2,480, much higher than the base model that cost $1,380.

While Galaxy Z Flip came with a relatively lower price tag, Galaxy Z Fold 2 is likely to cost higher given premium specifications and features. The special edition of the new foldable phone could be more expensive and even cross the $3,000 threshold, Engadget said in its report.

That said, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 will be unveiled tomorrow. The phone is said to come in Rich Gold, Ruby Red, Platinum Silver, and Sapphire Blue hinge colours. The hinge colour options will join the base colours which include Mystic Bronze and Mystic Black.

Specifications wise, Samsung's new foldable phone will run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ processor coupled with 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 265GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The phone will be powered by a 4,500mAh battery with 25W fast charging support and 11W wireless charging support.

The phone will reportedly have a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED cover display with HDR 10+ support and a 7.6-inch primary display with 120Hz refresh rate support. The foldable phone is said to come with triple 12-megapixel rear cameras, and two 10-megapixel selfie cameras.
