Sony to launch new smartphones on April 14

Sony’s upcoming event will be held 3:30 AM EDT or 9:30 CEST, which is 1PM IST on April 14.

The Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2021 will be held in Barcelona between June 28 and July 1. Ahead of the annual event, a number of tech companies including Sony have pulled out of the event this year. While Sony might be ditching MWC 2021, it hasn't abandoned its plans of showcasing its next-generation smartphones at all.

Sony today announced that it will be hosting a special event on April 14 wherein it will be showcasing its next-generation Xperia smartphones. The news comes as a courtesy of the company's Twitter handle where the company made the announcement regarding its upcoming event.

Sony's upcoming event will be held 3:30 AM EDT or 9:30 CEST, which is 1PM IST on April 14. In a similar announcement on its Instagram, the company said that it will be making the announcement via its official YouTube channel.

As far as the products that are expected to be launched at the upcoming event are concerned, Android Authority quoting a report by a Weibo tipster said that the company is likely to launch three new smartphones, which includes Xperia 1 III, Xperia 10 111 and the Xperia 5 111.

The same tipster also relieved key details about the Xperia 1 III. The report says that the phone is expected to come with a 6.5-inch 4K OLED display with a screen refresh rate of 120Hz and a 21:9 aspect ratio. It is likely to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC that is coupled with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage space. On the camera front, the phone is expected to come with a 64MP main camera and a periscope camera. It is likely to come with a 5,000mAh battery.
