Xiaomi may launch three more handsets with Qualcomm’s SD 870 chip
The Snapdragon 870 processor already powers phones such as Redmi K40, Mi 10S, and Poco F3.
Xiaomi is planning to launch at least three more handsets with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 870 processor this year, according to Gizmochina.
The report does not reveal which phones will have the chipset. There is no word on the launch timeline either. According to the report, OEMs are showing interest in the Snapdragon 870 processor to offer more affordable premium phones.
Xiaomi has already launched a few phones with Qualcomm's 870 processor. Last month, the company launched Mi 10S with the processor. The chipset also came to the Redmi lineup with the K40.
Apart from Xiaomi, Vivo has launched the X60 Pro (global variant) with the processor. Motorola's Edge S also runs on the SD 870 processor. Other phones with the chipset are Poco F3 and iQoo Neo 5.
In case you did not know, Qualcomm had launched the Snapdragon 870 processor earlier this year. The 7nm chip is said to be an upgraded version of the Snapdragon 865+ that had launched in July last year.
The processor features a Kyro 585 CPU prime core with a clock speed of 3.2Ghz, up from Snapdragon 865 Plus' 3.1Ghz. On papers, the chipset brings support for Snapdragon 870 can support 1440p class panels at up to 144Hz (or 4K at 60 Hz) along with HDR10+.
There is also Spectra 480 ISP, which is the same as seen in Snapdragon 865+. The ISP brings support for sensors up to 200-megapixel, 8K video capture at 30 fps (and 4K at 120 fps) and HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. For 5G, the Snapdragon 870 processor comes with 5G-sub 6Ghz and mmWave support with Snapdragon X55 modem.
