After PUBG Mobile, another Chinese app Shein to return to India: Here’s what you need to know
The Indian government banned a whole host of Chinese apps last year including popular ones like TikTok, PUBG Mobile, Camscanner, and Shein. While most of these apps have been trying to return to the country, only one has succeeded so far. PUBG Mobile marked its return in the form of Battlegrounds Mobile India. Now, one more of the banned apps is coming back, but not exactly the way PUBG Mobile did. Shein, the online shopping app for clothing and accessories, is going to return to India soon.
Shein is marking its return, not as a full-fledged app yet, but as a part of Amazon during the Prime Day sale that’s going to take place later this month. The Amazon Prime Day sale 2021 is scheduled to take place over July 26 and July 27, kicking off on July 26 at midnight. According to reports, Shein is going to be a part of that sale and Amazon has a dedicated page for it. When we checked our Amazon apps, we did not see the page announcement, but screenshots of the app with the details have been spotted on Twitter. Going by this, it can be assumed that Shein products are going to be available on Amazon over the Prime Day sale and may continue to be available on the e-commerce platform post that too.

In a way, this is good news for Shein fans in India. A partnership with Amazon assures better delivery timelines than what the app managed earlier. Shein orders would take anything between a couple of weeks or a month to get delivered when the app was functional in the country. However, we are not sure if Shein is going to be available as a brand post Prime Day, we’ll have to wait and watch. Shein was known for its great deals on clothes, shoes, accessories, etc with items selling at almost a fraction of the price as compared to similar products from other brands.
Post getting banned in India, the Shein app was removed from both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store in India. There is no news about whether the app is going to make a comeback in any form, yet. Given how long it has taken Krafton to bring in Battlegrounds Mobile India, the alternative to PUBG Mobile, the Shein app may not be headed back any time soon. In a situation like this, a partnership with Amazon makes sense since the e-commerce giant is definitely more equipped to handle orders and deliveries.
