Amazon today announced the launch of a new streaming service in India. Amazon miniTV is a free ad-supported video service that features web series, comedy sketches, tech, lifestyle and food videos. Amazon miniTV will be available within the Amazon app on Android. The iOS and mobile web versions will be released in the coming months.
Amazon miniTV is already available on the Amazon Android app. It's visible a few scrolls down in the app. Once you tap on the miniTV screen you will be redirected to a new section which is filled with different kinds of shows. Amazon miniTV has a proper app interface with a homescreen, and tabs for comedy, lifestyle and web series. It also has parental controls for restricted and unrestricted videos.
Amazon has roped in popular comedians, tech and fashion YouTubers to offer “professionally created and curated content” for miniTV. It has partnered with studios such as TVF, Pocket Aces, and comedians including Ashish Chanchlani, Amit Bhadana, Round2Hell, Harsh Beniwal, Shruti Arjun Anand, Elvish Yadav, Prajakta Koli, and more. Amazon miniTV will showcase tech videos from Trakin Tech, fashion and beauty videos from Sejal Kumar, Malvika Sitlani, and Jovita George. It will also feature food videos from Kabita's Kitchen, Cook with Nisha, and Gobble.
Amazon miniTV plans to add more new and exclusive videos in the coming months. With miniTV, Amazon competes with YouTube although the former is still a much larger platform. It's also different from Prime Video which requires an Amazon Prime membership. Amazon miniTV is completely free, and it can be accessed by anyone on the Android app.
