"Apple today announced AirPods are available to order online now from Apple.com and will start delivering to customers and arriving at Apple Stores, Apple Authorized Resellers and select carriers next week," the iPhone-maker said in a statement. AirPods were launched alongside iPhone 7 in September at $159.

The iPhone-maker had launched AirPods along with the iPhone 7 in September this year as a replacement for conventional earphones that require a headphone jack. However, an adapter and a lightning-ended headphone is provided inside the box of all iPhone 7 and 7Plus.

According to a report in Fortune, "technology problems with how the earpieces receive wireless signals via Bluetooth are causing delay." Apple had earlier said that it was delaying the availability without giving a reason.

"The delay in launch is expected to hurt sales of the accessory especially in price-sensitive markets like India," an expert said adding that "Apple might be betting on Christmas or the end of the festive season to see an increase in sales."

The source also said that the form factor of accessory, the fact that it is cordless, might spook consumers affecting sales. However, a $10 cord bundle is also available on Amazon from Spigen.

But there is a soft warning from Apple in terms of availability. "AirPods will be shipping in limited quantities at launch and customers are encouraged to check online for updates on availability and estimated delivery dates," it said adding that "stores will receive regular AirPod shipments."

The new wireless earphones will be available in more than 100 countries and territories including Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, France, Germany, India, Mexico, Netherlands, Japan, UAE, the UK and the US.
