Apple has reached another milestone as its has crossed the 25 billion apps downloads by users on iPhones, iPads and other devices.
Apple started the contest two weeks back and offered a prize of $10, 000 to the person who downloads the 25th billion app. As the tech giant reached the much-awaited milestone over the weekend it posted a big thank you note on the countdown page: A billion thanks. 25 times over.
According to telegraph.uk, 'Apple announced 10 billion app downloads in January last year, meaning that a further 15 billion have been downloaded in a little over a year. There are now more than half a million apps available in the app store.
While the countdown has ended, Apple is yet to announce the winner.
'The iTunes App Store opened in July 2008, a year after the release of the iPhone, and within a year 50,000 apps were available and the store had seen more than one billion downloads,' reports telegraph.uk.
This concept has been imitated by rivals including Google, Microsoft, Research In Motion, Nokia, HP and Samsung Electronics and analysts say it has changed the face of computing.
