The US President relied heavily on young voters in his first election effort and his campaign is no doubt trying to energize them once again with such moves.

"We're excited to welcome President Barack Obama to Instagram!" Politico quoted the site's blog post as saying.

"We look forward to seeing how President Obama uses Instagram to give folks a visual sense of what happens in the everyday life of the President of the United States," the blog post said.

The first photo Obama shared was a behind-the-scenes snapshot taken as he spoke with Iowa caucus goers from the Capitol Hilton via video link.
